Mind/Level Ideas

Okay, we need to come up with a list of children/minds/levels our doctor is going to travel through. Here is my list of minds, if we are doing 6, i think we should do (no particular order):

1) Cowboy/girl
2) Spoiled Brat
3) Astronaut
4) Psycho
5) Dinosaur Kid
6) Ridlin Kid

What do you guys say?

Ok, now that I can actually comment.

I was thinking:

K1 - Cowboys
K2 - Magic
K3 - Time (Either past or future)
K4 - Pirates
K5 - WW2
K6 - Dollhouse

You start with the mono, then K1 gives you the pogo cane, K2 gives the clone gun, K3 gives the pocket watch, K4 gives something we haven't come up with, K5 gives a ragdoll gun, and K6 doesn't give anything.

I had another idea. What about making the main character female?

The pirate one is leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I like the dollhouse, but for some reason i can't really see that being that entertaining of a level.

What if rather we have the final level be kinda like the Wonderland levels in kingdom hearts where it is a large scale version of the playroom. So you are placed as a tiny person in the massive room, and your goal is to get to the dollhouse where the final boss will be.

I am fine with it being a woman doctor. IDEA! What if the person you are playing as is a older woman (Say 70) and as you progress through the levels the character becomes younger, subtle enough that the player doesn't realize it.

Also, i think that if we have a woman as the main character then the monocle will be somewhat out of place. Just my opinion.

I don't think we should change the player to a woman. I mean, it's not a bad idea, but I really think we should stick to what we've got so far. We barely got anything done design-wise at our last meeting, let's take what we can from that meeting and build on it. It's good to explore possibilities, but there comes a point where we really just need to move on. If we keep changing the little bit we already have, we aren't going to get anything done.

I also think that having levels like "cowboy level, pirate level, WW2 level, psychotic level, etc." takes away from the whole dream thing's surrealism.
Rather than having these types of single-themed levels, I would like to design the levels around the kid's personality. This would include one of the aformentioned themes, perhaps, but the level would be made up of several aspects, from memories to inner fears or desires.
Here are a few examples:
Say there's a kid who has an older brother. This kid strives for the attention of his parents, but to him, his brother seems to be superior. He feels that he is completely overshadowed. He always tries his best, but knows in his heart that he will never reach his brother's level. This kid's stage would be structured around a giant golden statue of his brother. Towering over the surrounding level, there would be a goal, or trophy of some sort on top. A trophy for the kid. The level would have you climb higher and higher around the massive statue, but in the end, you cannot reach the top of the level.
That's just an example, and only part of the level idea. The rest of the stage could be themed around, say, cowboy western town or something, I don't know.
I also think that themes could be combined. Think a giant dollhouse in the middle of the desert (the dollhouse thing is a great idea, don't listen to Quiche), or a theme park that seemingly starts off on land but ends up in space. I don't really think I'm doing these ideas justice here, but these are the things I want to make.

At the risk of living up to my nickname, I'm going to go ahead and say this: I do not want to budge on any of these issues:

1. The sort of Tartovsky-esque art style

2. A main character resembling what we came up with at Geoff's house (Roger smith hair, white, open lab coat, simple design, etc.)

3. The type of levels I described above; Really, I have several designs already in my head for those

And if possible, I'd like to, to some extent, have a degree of free-reign over some of the creative aspects such as levels and some of the story. You two are artists and programmers; I'm a designer. So if possible I'd like to start writing outlines of levels and story-sections. If you guys both disagree with something I do, I'll change it, obviously. I don't want to be a huge douchebag, but I do want to be able to be creative and design. If I do a terrible job I will accept any and all punishment.

Is that alright?

I would like to do a female character because (quite frankly) it is easier for me to visualize and design. I think a female character will speed up the process. It doesn't change anything but the art aspect. I'm really not digging the blog thing by the way. I just created a quick wiki. It is quick and dirty right now, but it does have a forum.

I have no idea what you have to do to register.

well I suppose if it really helps out, Ive got no qualms with the female main.
The blog thing doesn't bother me really. I think it works for now (if we used it more) but a wiki would be the way to go after we start making it.
Also, quiche, didn't you say they had UT3 on the computers here at SCI? you liiiiieeeeeddd to meeeeee!!!

DB, can you get some level designs typed up so I can start work on some scenery pieces?

well I'm actually doing some designs for color quest right now but I'll do what I can.
